“Bathroom access for those of us with Crohn’s and Colitis is life changing. We don’t get the luxury of waiting a few minutes.”
Dominique’s first trip after her Crohn’s diagnosis was to New York City.
While she was excited to travel, things went downhill when she was denied bathroom access. She was at a place of business and was told that the bathroom was for employees only.
Dominique remarked that being denied access to a bathroom hinders your everyday life.
Crohn’s and Colitis is an invisible disease because people can’t see the disease. IBD patients have to plan their day around bathroom trips. Being denied bathroom access and having an accident is embarrassing.
She would like to send a message to business owners – if you own a business and have a restroom, let us use it. She feels that restroom access is bigger than a bathroom – it’s bigger than a toilet.”
